EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's wrestling team picked up nine top-five placements at the UWEC 8-Man Battles on Saturday, with Jacob Badger and Nathan Petreikis finding victory in their respective weight classes. Augustana finished fourth out of seven competing teams with a total of 90.5 points.
Badger secured first in the 197-weight division after notching two technical falls before pinning his opponent from Concordia-Moorhead. He won the championship match over his opponent from UW-Eau Claire by a 15-12 decision. Petreikis found victory in the 184-weight category after two pins against Nebraska Wesleyan and a 18-1 technical fall against Colby Lape, who finished third. Lape picked up a 11-8 decision in round two of the 184 flights to help lead to his third-place standing. In the 197 weight division, Clay DeBaillie placed third with two decisions against Concordia-Moorhead. Khadyn Jacobs secured third in the 133 bracket with a pin over Buena Vista and a 15-0 technical fall in the third-place match. In the 149 class, Kameron Hanel picked up a 15-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals before a 8-5 decision to finish third. In the 141 bracket, Will Taylor finished fourth after a pin against Buena Vista.
Braiden Young found fourth place in the 184 category with a 5-2 decision and won a tiebreaker against St. John's (Minn.), while Jack Miller clinched fifth after two decisions in the consolation bracket. In the 165 matchup, Kadin Rednour finished sixth and Noah DeMarco placed eighth in the 157 weight class after he pinned his foe from Illinois Wesleyan.
The Vikings will take a small break before hitting the road for their first away dual matchup on Thursday, December 5 when they will battle Central and Simpson.
