ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's wrestling team earned a season-opening win at home against the MSOE Raiders by a score of 30-22 on Saturday.
The Raiders conquered the first three weight divisions before Kameron Hanel won via forfeit to get Augie on the board. Michael Macias earned the team four points after an 11-0 major decision in the 157 weight class, but MSOE took the 165 weight class to grab a 22-10 advantage. Jack Miller closed the gap with a fall against his opponent in the 174 weight division prior to Braiden Young notching a major decision in the 184 category to pull the team within two at 22-20. Clay DeBaillie's major decision over the Raiders put Augie on top and Jacob Badger closed out the event with a victory by forfeit to secure the 30-22 win.
The Vikings also went 3-0 in the extra matches played, seeing wins by Dominic Myers-Foster, Noah DeMarco, and Nathan Petreikis.
Augustana begins the season with a 1-0 record and will travel to Decorah, Iowa for the Luther Open on November 9.
