Women’s basketball opens season at UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. --  The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team opens their season on Wednesday, November 13 against the UW-Platteville Pioneers in Wisconsin. 

The Vikings return to action after finishing last season with a 13-14 overall record and 7-9 in conference play. The team will boast two seniors and return four starters from 2023-24. Augie was picked to finish fifth in the CCIW Preseason Coaches Poll with 30 points. The Vikings were 7-8 on the road a year ago and will open the season on the road before hosting the Hyatt Place Tournament on Friday and Saturday in the Carver Center. Emma Berg is the top returning scorer from last season's team, averaging 9.9 points per game in 27 outings. Cali Papez also returns at the center position after putting up 240 points and grabbing 7.2 rebounds per contest.

UW-Platteville opens its season after a 14-12 record last season, including postseason action in the WIAC Tournament. The Pioneers return their top scorer from a season ago, Ella Mackiewicz, who averaged 15.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds in 2023-24. The team begins their campaign tomorrow after finishing last season with a 4-6 home record. 

The Pioneers hold a 13-7 all-time series record over Augie, with their last matchup resulting in an 83-74 loss for the Vikings in the Carver Center last season. Carly Stone led the team with 19 points, three assists, three steals, and five rebounds. Kadence Tatum registered a double-double with 13 points, 15 assists, two steals, and five rebounds. 

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
