WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team dropped a pair of contests Friday night in Wisconsin, falling to both the Carroll Pioneers and Dubuque Spartans by a score fo 3-1.
Against Carroll, the Pioneers grabbed the first two sets of the match, but Augie bounced back with a 25-21 victory in the third. The Vikings led for most of the beginning of the frame, but Carroll erased a 12-10 deficit with four straight points before extending the differential out to three at 18-15. From there, Augustana secured nine of the next 10 points, including six in a row at one point. The Pioneers tallied two in a row to cut the margin down to three at 24-21, but an attack error from the home team gave Augie the win. Carroll answered with a seven-point win in the fourth to seal the 3-1 match win.
Emily Schipper had 21 kills on .276 hitting to lead the Vikings, while
Ashley Awbrey added 19 digs defensively.
It was a similar outcome against Dubuque as the Spartans won each of the first two sets for the 2-0 lead. Augie answered with a 25-16 triumph in set three, never trailing after turning an early 7-7 tie into a six-point lead following an 8-2 scoring run. After a 3-1 spurt by Dubuque, Augustana strung together another scoring outburst, this time notching five of the next six points to make it a 21-14 game. A kill and a block by
Mallory Coley awarded the Vikings their 23rd and 24th point before an attack error by the Spartans wrapped up the nine-point victory for Augie. Dubuque took a close fourth set by three points to earn the 3-1 match victory.
Schipper led the way with 17 kills, while Alyssa Milan added 16 assists and eight digs.
Augie drops to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in the CCIW after Friday's results. The team will be back in action Tuesday at Elmhurst.
