DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming & diving teams will begin a busy weekend on Friday, January 26 when they cross the river to take on the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees in a dual meet. The Vikings will then travel east for the North Central/Illinois-Chicago Invitational in Westmont, Ill. on Saturday.
Both the men's and women's teams sit at 3-1 on the season in dual meets, with their last coming back on November 18 at Grinnell. Since then, the Vikings have competed in a pair of two-day invites, ending the 2023 calendar year at Wheaton before participating in the competitive Grinnell Invitational last weekend. The women earned a fifth-place finish out of eight teams, while the men garnered a third-place standing out of seven squads.
Tyler Leslie was crowned the CCIW Swimmer of the Week following his performance as he notched multiple event wins and two record-breaking swims in the 200 freestyle race.Â
St. Ambrose enters Friday with a 5-3 record on the men's side and 4-6 mark on the women's side. Both teams were present at Grinnell last weekend, with the men grabbing second and the women in fourth. The Bees' last dual meet came back on December 2, with both squads defeating Midland by well over 100 points. The St. Ambrose men boast a 3-1 record at home this season, while the women sit at an even 2-2.
Friday will serve as the 11th all-time meeting between the two men's programs, with the Bees owning a 6-4-1 record over the Vikings in the series. The Augie women currently sit 4-1 all-time against St. Ambrose. The Bees won both meets last season in Davenport.
Start time on Friday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
