GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming & diving teams completed the highly-competitive two-day Grinnell Invitational on Saturday, with the men grabbing a third-place finish and the women earning fifth.
"We had a great weekend and I am extremely proud of the way our team stepped up and performed despite missing people and not having our full lineup," said head coach
Dan Lloyd. "They showed a lot of heart, toughness, and pride throughout the weekend in representing Augustana and our program.
On the men's side,
Tyler Leslie highlighted a success visit to Grinnell, setting a meet record in the 200 freestyle race in the prelims with a time of 1:42.10. He later broke the same record at night in the finals, clocking a time of 1:41.94 to earn first overall.
Gavin McCorry also earned fourth in the event, finishing at 1:46.1, while
Sam Kulisek was the winner of the B-final. Leslie and McCorry also saw success in the 200 back, notching second and sixth place.
Lucas Rettig earned a top-three spot in the 100-yard fly, ending with a time of 53.16.
Cesar Castillo won the B-final in the same race, securing a 53.36 finish. Augustana saw two top-five standings in the 100 breast, with
Kacper Cebula clocking a time of 1:00.35 in fourth and
Albert Buvary with a time of 1:00.45 in fifth.
Nathan Mesina also saw success in the same race, taking first in the B-final at 1:02.90. Another first-place finish came from
Jack Brandt in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.31, while Buvary also took seventh in the event.
In relays, the 200 medley team of McCorry, Cebula, Rettig, and Leslie earned third with a time of 1:35.89. In the 400-free, Leslie, Buvary, Rettig, and McCorry grabbed second place with a mark of 3:10.99.
As a team, the Augie men collected 801 points for third place.
On the women's side,
Mara Walker earned fifth place in the 400 IM, while
Annabella Valenti was the winner of the 100-yard fly C-final with a time of 1:04.79.
Hailey Glasnovich grabbed second in the 200-back and
Kendle Mihm secured sixth in the 50 freestyle to round out some of the individual success across the board for the women.
In diving events,
Kaite Zaborenko claimed third with a score of 272.95.
