ELMHURST, Ill -- The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team sets the way for a conference contest on Wednesday, January 3, where they will face off against the Elmhurst Bluejays.
The Vikings return to play from the holiday break and will be in action for the first time since defeating Alma by a score of 60-52 at the Hope Post Exam Jam on December 20.
In the win, the Vikings obtained a 56 percent shooting percentage in the first frame and held Alma to just 37 percent, but the Scots found a slight advantage behind the arc, swishing one more shot than the Vikings and posting a plus-four margin at the free throw line. Augie led 21-20 after 10 minutes of play. In a low-scoring second period, the Vikings earned 10 points and held the Scots to seven to increase their gap to four points.
Both teams battled in the third as the game was tied five times, but Alma took the final lead of the quarter with two points from the free throw line to make the score 43-42 entering the final period. The Vikings had a dominant finish to close the game, doubling up the Scots 18-9 in the fourth. Augie held Alma to just 24 percent shooting for the game and 14 points less than their season average.
The Bluejays enter the contest with an overall record of 7-6 and are 1-3 in conference play. Elmhurst returns to CCIW action after an 81-49 victory against Saint Mary's on Friday, which increased their win streak to three. The Bluejays were 36 percent from the field and 34 percent behind the arc during the game's duration. Elmhurst out-scored Saint Mary's 52-23 in the first half on its way to the dominating win.
Augie holds a 50-28 all-time series record over Elmhurst. During the 2022-23 season, the Vikings won both matchups, including a 76-33 win at home in the most recent matchup on January 25, 2023.
