ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team will host the Wheaton Thunder on Wednesday, January 17.

The Vikings enter the mid-week battle with a record of 9-7 after a 97-59 defeat in the Carver Center against the Carroll Pioneers on Sunday. Carroll got on the board first with the game's first five points, but Augie followed with three made shots to take the lead after two-and-a-half minutes of play. Both teams went back and forth, but Carroll used an 8-2 run to close the frame and take a 23-15 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Pioneers out-scored the Vikings 22-13 in the second to extend the halftime cushion to 45-31.

Returning to the court, Augie's offense struggled to get the ball moving, falling behind 24-12 as the Pioneers continued to separate themselves. The visitors closed out the final quarter with a 28-16 advantage to bring it to its final score.

Wheaton has a 10-6 overall record and is 3-4 in conference play after hosting Elmhurst on Saturday, which concluded in an 80-69 win. As a team, the Thunder shot 37.8 percent, while holding Elmhurst to 29.1 percent throughout the game. Wheaton produced three players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Annie Tate with 39 points. The Thunder boast a 4-4 record on the road, with their last defeat coming last Wednesday at Millikin with a final score of 86-47.

Wheaton holds a 54-25 all-time record over Augie. The Vikings won both contests during the 2022-23 season, with their last matchup resulting in a 69-67 win on the road for the Vikings back on February 1, 2023.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
