KANSASVILLE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's and men's golf teams boasted top 10 finishes over the weekend at the highly-competitive Midwest Region Classic at Brighton Dale Golf Club in Kansasville, Wis., with the women earning fourth place out of 33 teams and the men in eighth out of 40 squads.
The Augie women saw two individuals placing in the top 10 as
Kelsey O'Connor and
Avery Frick both tied for sixth overall. Frick was consistent with her scores over the two-day tournament, posting a 78 in round one and 77 in round two for a final tally of 155. O'Connor had a big round two, bouncing back from an 81 in round one with a team-best 74 in the second.
Sarah Bond was next for the Vikings in 36th, shooting an 81 both rounds to finish inside the top 40.
Elena Kuczkowski placed in 58th with a score of 167, followed by
Georgia Holt in 83rd with a 172.
The Vikings finished in fourth as a team with a score of 639, just two strokes behind Dubuque for third.
On the men's side,
Patrick McGrath led Augie in the jam-packed field with a top 20 finish in 17th, carding round scores of 74 and 73 for a 147. The Vikings saw two additional golfers inside the top 50 as
Sam Evenson in 41st and
Alexandre Thery in 47th finished just one stroke apart.
Vilhelm Johansson ended in 58th with a score of 153, followed by
Kevin Cortez with his 156.
The Vikings earned eighth overall with a score of 602, just one stroke behind Macalester for seventh.
The Augustana men will be back in action September 26 for the CCIW Preview in Peoria, Ill., while the women will be out next at the Dechert Classic in Decatur, Ill. on September 29-30.Â
