Women's tennis completes Warhawk Invitational

Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team wrapped up action at their first outing of the season on Saturday, finishing in seventh place at the Warhawk Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. All three singles players and three doubles teams earned a win at the tournament.

Caitlyn Hanulikova secured seventh place in the No. 1 singles draw after defeating her opponent from UW-Oshkosh in her final match by a score of 8-3. She joined teammates Jaina Burkett at No. 2 and Mia Reese at No. 3 with seventh-place finishes, all defeating UW-Oshkosh in their final contest. Burkett took her match to end her run by a score of 8-5, while Reese picked up an 8-6 victory over her opponent.

At No. 1 doubles, Hannah Colbert and Anna-Maria Huebel dropped a close opening match to UW-Whitewater in a tiebreaker, but bounced back with an 8-3 victory over Carthage to push them into the consolation bracket championship. The duo fell 8-3 to Grinnell to earn them sixth overall. It was a similar path for Hattie Timerman and Natasha Gauerke at the No. 2 doubles draw, falling in their opener but responding with an 8-5 victory over UW-Eau Claire. Timerman and Gauerke were defeated by UW-Whitewater in the fifth place contest to land them sixth.

Maitreyi Shrikhande and Maddy Harned finished in seventh overall at No. 3, dropping their first two matches before knocking off UW-Oshkosh in their final clash of the day by a score of 8-6.

The team will be back in action on September 12 when they open the CCIW slate at home against Millikin.
