STERLING, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team improved to 2-0 both overall and in the CCIW on Saturday, defeating the Illinois Wesleyan Titans by a score of 8-1.
Augie grabbed two of three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Hannah Colbert and
Caitlyn Hanulikova were victorious at the No. 1 spot, winning by a score of 8-4.
Mia Reese and
Maddy Harned earned an 8-5 triumph at No. 3 to help give Augustana the early advantage.
All six singles went in favor of the Vikings. Hanulikova at No. 1 (6-2, 6-0), Colbert at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3), and
Mikayla Kelly at No. 6 (6-3, 6-0) all posted at least one clean set in their wins, while
Maitreyi Shrikhande and
Hattie Timerman coasted to victories at the No. 3 and 5 positions. Harned earned a hard-fought win at No. 4 by a score of 6-4, 7-6(9-7) to complete the sweep at singles for the Vikings.
Augustana will step out of conference and dual play for their next outing September 22-24 at the ITA Regional Championships in St. Louis, Mo.
