ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team will continue their CCIW slate on Saturday, September 16 when they host the Illinois Wesleyan Titans at Westwood Fitness & Sports Center in Sterling, Ill.
Augie originally had a pair of home matches scheduled for Saturday against Illinois Wesleyan and North Park, but due to travel issues with North Park, that match has been postponed to a later date. With forecasted weather looming as a concern, the Vikings and Titans have agreed to move Saturday's match indoors in Sterling.
The Vikings currently sit with a 1-0 record both overall and in the CCIW. The team defeated the Millikin Big Blue on Tuesday by a final of 9-0 in their first dual contest of the season. The Vikings swept doubles play to begin the match 3-0, led by a win at No. 1 fromÂ
Caitlyn Hanulikova andÂ
Hannah Colbert by a score of 8-5. At No. 2,Â
Natasha Gauerke andÂ
Anna-Maria Huebel defeated their opponent 8-4, whileÂ
Ava Lannen andÂ
Mia Reese squeaked out an 8-7 (7) victory at the third position.
Weather forced singles play to be moved indoors at the Quad Cities Tennis Club, where Augie went a perfect 6-0 to complete the sweep. Hanulikova and Colbert were among the first to finish, picking up wins at No. 2 and 3 by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1.Â
Mikayla Kelly also earned a quick victory at No. 6, defeating her counterpart 6-1, 6-1. Huebel took down her opponent at No. 1 singles in the first set, but was defeated in the second to force a tiebreaker. Heubel fended off her opponent to come away with a 10-8 win. Both Gauerke andÂ
Jaina Burkett snagged two-set victories at No. 3 and No. 4 to complete the victory for the Vikings.Â
Illinois Wesleyan currently sits 2-1 on the season, recently suffering their first loss of the season on Wednesday to North Central by a score of 9-0. The Titans began the year with back-to-back wins, defeating Concordia-Chicago and Illinois College.
The Vikings lead the all-time series 30-11 over the Titans and have won the last 10 meetings dating back to 2013. Augie won last year's encounter in Bloomington by a score of 9-0.
