Vikings boast over 30 All-Conference performances at CCIW Outdoor Championships

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Augustana men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the CCIW Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday. The men's team claimed a seventh-place finish, while the women's team finished sixth. 

Magnus Wells' top placement in the javelin throw highlighted the competition on the men's side. The freshman's hurl of 51.42m traveled nearly three meters further than the second-place finisher and surpassed his previous season-high toss of 49.52m back on April 28 at the Drake Alternative. Nick Hogan finished fifth overall in the same event with a throw of 45.09m. Wells also turned in a sixth-place finish in the discus throw with a 43.55m hurl. 

Elsewhere, No. 43 ranked Derek Butts finished fourth in the pole vault with a 4.33m extension, and Rafael Estrada finished sixth in the high jump at 1.86m.

Seth Sottos turned in a pair of top-five finishes in running events, earning second in the 100m finals at 10.71 and fourth in the 200m with a 22.07 time. Joe Langridge entered the competition ranked 38th in the nation in the 3000m steeplechase and finished fourth with a time of 9:29.83. Langridge also finished sixth out of 41 athletes in the 1500m at 4:01.23. 

On the women's side, Augie took the top two spots in the high jump, highlighted by a first-place finish from Gabriela Loiz with her 1.68m extension, while Rhiannon Marshall finished second at 1.56m. An additional pair of second place finishes came from throwers Heather Michalski and Charlotte Frere. Michalski secured her runner-up finish in the javelin throw with a toss of 37.46, while No. 9 ranked Frere finished second in the discus throw with a 43.43m heave.

In running events, Lina Maatouk and Anna Boardman secured third-place finishes in the 800m and 5000m, respectively, with times of 2:20.12 and 18:15.33. Additionally, McKenzie Reser claimed fourth in the 100m at 12.34, while Emma Odle turned in a fifth-place finish in the 1500m with her time of 4:52.47.

Augie also secured a pair of runner-up finishes in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay events. The 4x100m relay team of Jason Smith, Connor McBride, Braeden Clements, and Sottos finished second at 41.51, while the 4x400m relay squad of Sylvester Brady, McBride, Cameron Tomko, and Jon Cathcart took second with their time of 3:17.96.

The Vikings boasted 30 all-conference performances between the two teams. The men's 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams also earned all-conference honors.

Jordyn Van Santen and Ethan Gray were also recognized as Augustana's CCIW RESPECT Award honorees.

The Vikings will be back in action May 12-13 at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet in Joliet, Ill.
