Track and field teams find individual success at Rex Foster Twilight meet

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Augustana men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the Rex Foster Twilight meet on Friday at UW-Whitewater, placing fourth out of eight teams on the men's side and fifth out of eight teams on the women's side. 

Connor McBride secured a top placement for the men in the 200m with his time of 22.50, also nabbing a runner-up finish in the 400m with a time of 50.09. Augie boasted two top-five runners in the 800m dash, with Jon Cathcart finishing in third with a time of 1:58.74 and Joe Gibbons crossing in fifth with a time of 1:59.55.

In field events, Carson Eipers claimed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.77m, while Travis Bush earned a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw with his toss of 45.57m. Magnus Wells also earned fifth in the discus throw with a hurl of 41.81m. 

Adrian Ibarra notched two top-five finishes in jumping events, securing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.33m and fifth in the triple jump with a lunge of 12.69m. Teammate Derek Butts finished third in the pole vault with a height of 4.15m.  

Heather Michalski highlighted the Vikings' placements on the women's side with a top finish in the javelin throw, earning a 40.34m mark. Michalski's throw was 8.29m further than the runner-up participant. In the discus throw, Charlotte Frere finished in fourth place with a toss of 40.08m, while Rhiannon Marshall earned third place in the high jump with a leap of 1.50m.

In running events, Madison Morrow claimed a second-place finish in 100m hurdles with a time of 16.29. McKenzie Reser earned two top-five finishes with her third-place finish in the 200m and her fourth-place standing in the 100m. Lina Maatouk and Kara Lotz added to the running success, finishing third and fourth in the 800m dash. 

Additionally, Augustana had two men's 4x400m relay teams finish in second and third place out of seven other squads. The team consisting of runners Cameron Tomko, Jason Smith, McBride, and Cathcart placed second with a time of 3:30.92, while the team of Sylvester Brady, Braeden Clements, Dylan Russell, and Dean Check placed third with a time of 3:33.74. 

For their next competition, the Vikings will travel for the Wheaton Invitational in Wheaton, Ill. on April 14-15.
