Track and field teams wrap up busy weekend away

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Augustana men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday and Friday, achieving numerous top-five placements at the individual level.
 

Seth Sottos highlighted the Vikings' efforts on the men's side, grabbing a top placement in the 200m with a 22.04 time. He also finished third in the 100m sprint with a time of 10.95. The 200m event featured 37 competitors, with Sottos' teammate Connor McBride finishing fifth at 22.39. Rounding out running events, Jon Cathcart finished sixth in the 400m, clocking a time of 50.03. 

The Vikings entered two men's 4x400m relay teams. The group of Sylvester Brady, Cameron Tomko, McBride, and Cathcart placed second with a 3:21.67 time, while the squad of Jason Smith, Joe Gibbons, Miles Rubio, and Adam Schumacher placed third with a time of 3:33.27.

On the women's side, Rhiannon Marshall turned in a fourth-place finish in the high jump with her extension of 1.55m. In running events, McKenzie Reser notched a seventh-place finish in the 200m sprint with a time of 25.71, while Lina Maatouk finished eighth in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 1:00.16. 

The women's 4x400m relay team of Reser, Maatouk, Jordyn VanSanten, and Kira Nelson earned third place with a time of 4:11.35.

Augie sent an additional group of throwers to the Drake Alternative in Whitewater, Wis. on Friday. Heather Michalski claimed a top placement in the javelin throw with her 36.94m hurl. Elsewhere, Magnus Wells' 49.52m in the javelin and Charlotte Frere's 44.93m in the discus helped the Vikings claim a pair of third-place finishes as well. 

For their next competition, the Vikings will travel for the CCIW Outdoor Championships from May 5-6 in Waukesha, Wis.
