WHEATON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team will take on the host school Wheaton Thunder in the first round of the CCIW Tournament on Thursday, April 27. The Vikings earned the No. 5 seed, with the Thunder securing the No. 4.

Augustana enters postseason play with an 11-6 overall and 4-3 mark in the CCIW. The team is coming off an 8-1 win over the Carroll Pioneers in their regular-season finale to finish over .500 in conference play. Augustana jumped out to a 3-0 lead following a clean sweep of doubles. Arthur Hermange and Gabriel Luna were victorious at the No. 1 spot, winning by a score of 8-4, while the No. 2 match went in favor of Nicolas Navarro and Quentin Essayie with an 8-5 final. Timothee Philip and Gustavo Fontenelle earned an 8-3 triumph at the No. 3 slot.

In singles, five of the six matches were won by Augustana. Hermange fought back from a first-set defeat at the No. 1 position, eventually taking the match 2-6, 6-3, 10-7. Essayie grabbed a win at No. 3, while Luna posted identical 6-1 set wins in his victory at No. 4. Philip did not lose a game at No. 5, boasting a 6-0, 6-0 performance, joined by Fontenelle at No. 6 as the other Augie player to win a set without dropping a game. Fontenelle defeated his opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-0.

Wheaton comes into Thursday sporting an 11-9 overall record and 4-3 mark in the CCIW. The Thunder have dropped two straight contests, falling to conference foe Carthage by a score of 8-1 before being defeated by UW-Eau Claire in their most recent outing by a final of 7-2. The hosts of the CCIW Tournament are 7-4 at home this season.

The Thunder defeated the Vikings in their earlier-season matchup by a score of 5-4 in Rock Island. Despite Augustana winning four of six singles matches, Wheaton's two wins were enough to claim the win after they swept all three doubles contests. Augustana is 24-48 all-time against the Thunder.

Start time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. from the Wheaton Tennis Courts.
