Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team fell in a close battle with the Carthage Firebirds on Saturday, defeated by a score of 5-4.
Augie took a 2-1 lead after winnings two of the three doubles matches.
Arthur Hermange and
Gabriel Luna were victorious at No. 1, winning by a score of 8-3 before earning a win at No. 3 from
Timothee Philip and
Gustavo Fontenelle. Carthage snagged a win via tiebreaker to salvage a point heading into singles.
Carthage grabbed wins in three of the first five matches to finish to even the score at 4-4. Hermange was victorious at No. 1, while Philip defeated his opponent at No. 5 by a score of 6-2, 6-4. The last match of the night came down to the No. 6 slot.
Nicolas Navarro got out to a fast start in the match, winning the first four games, but eventually fell 7-5 in the first set. A lengthy second set ensued, with each winning six games to force a tiebreaker. Marco Czosnyka came out on top over Navarro, securing a 7-5 win to seal the set and match win for the Firebirds.
With the defeat, Augustana drops to 10-6 on the season and 3-3 in the CCIW. The team will close out the regular season on Sunday when they take on the Carroll Pioneers on the road. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m. from Waukesha, Wis.
