KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team will wrap up their regular season on Saturday and Sunday in the state of Wisconsin, squaring off against the Kenosha Firebirds on April 22 before taking on the Carroll Pioneers the following day.
Augustana enters the weekend with a 10-5 overall record and 3-2 mark in the CCIW. The Vikings are coming off a 9-0 sweep of Elmhurst on Wednesday to snap a two-match skid and go back over .500 in conference play. In singles, the Vikings were awarded another win at No. 6 due to Elmhurst forfeit, followed up by victories in all five matches played. At the No. 3 and 4 spots, Luna and Navarro collected perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins, whileÂ
Arthur Hermange and Mendes at No. 1 and 5 each grabbed a 6-0 first-set victory before winning handily in the second. Essayie rounded out the sweep, taking down his opponent 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.
Carthage currently sits 14-5 overall and 5-1 in the CCIW. The Firebirds have won five straight, all coming against conference opponents after beginning league play with a loss. In their most recent match, Carthage defeated Wheaton by a score of 8-1. The Firebirds have out-scored their opponents 43-2 during their currently five-match span. Saturday will be the 63rd meeting all-time between Augustana and Carthage, with each team winning 31 times. The Firebirds won last season's encounter in Rock Island by a score of 8-1. Start time on Saturday is scheduled for noon.
On Sunday, Augie will close out their conference slate against Carroll in Waukesha, Wis. The Pioneers are 9-8 overall this season and 0-5 in the CCIW. The team recently fell to Illinois Wesleyan their last time out by a score of 8-1. Augustana is 18-3 all-time against the Pioneers, winning last year's matchup by a score of 9-0 at home. Start time on Sunday is scheduled for 10 a.m.
