ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team saw their seven-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling at home to the Wheaton Thunder by a score of 5-4.
Augustana found themselves playing catch-up after Wheaton grabbed all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles. After Wheaton secured the first singles match at No. 3, the Vikings rattled off three straight wins at No. 6, 4, and 5 to cut the deficit to one and stay alive in the match.
Nicolas Navarro earned the first win for Augie with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, followed by a 6-2, 7-5 triumph from
Gabriel Luna and three-set win from
Timothee Philip.
Wheaton secured the match with a three-set thriller at No. 2.
Arthur Hermange came out victorious at No. 1, winning a third set to claim his match for as many times in two days.
With the loss, Augustana suffers their first loss in over a month and drops to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the CCIW. The team will hit the road for their next outing on Tuesday, April 18 when they take on the Millikin Big Blue. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Decatur, Ill.
