ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team will play in their final match of the regular season on Saturday, April 15 when they host the Central Dutch at the Lower Campus Courts.
Augie enters the weekend with an 8-6 overall record, recently defeating St. Ambrose at home by a score of 9-0. Augustana quickly earned a 3-0 lead in the match following a sweep of doubles.
Hannah Colbert and
Caitlyn Hanulikova earned a win at the top spot by a score of 8-2, while teammates
Lily Schoeck and
Lauren Oda secured a victory at No. 2 by an identical score.
Grace Rider and
Natasha Gauerke wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-1 at the No. 3 position.
In singles, all six matches went in favor of the Vikings. Four Vikings notched a 6-0 set in their victories, including a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot for Schoeck.
Michaela Magee snagged a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3, joined by Colbert at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1) and Oda at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1) as Vikings to post at least one set without dropping a game. Augie wrapped up the 9-0 win with triumphs at No. 2 and 5 from Hanulikova and Gauerke.
Central currently sports a 6-11 overall record and has dropped three of their last four matches. The Dutch were defeated in their last outing on Wednesday, falling to Truman State at home by a score of 8-1. Prior to that, they halted a two-match skid with a 9-0 conference victory over Cornell.
Saturday will be the 22nd meeting all-time between the two programs, with the Vikings boasting an 18-3 all-time record in the series. The teams met last season, also in Rock Island, resulting in a 7-2 win for the Vikings.
