Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team fell in a close contest on Saturday on the road, defeated by the Hope Flying Dutch by a score of 5-4.
Hope took a 2-1 lead afters double play, winning the No. 1 and 2 matches. Augustana salvaged a point at No. 3 as
Gustavo Fontenelle and
Timothee Philip earned a win with an 8-6 score.
The two teams split singles matches, each winning three.
Deepak Vayara secured an early win for the Vikings at No. 3, defeating his opponent by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Reigning CCIW Student-Athlete of the
Gabriel Luna grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4, while Philip squeaked out a 7-6 (9), 7-5 win at No. 5. The Flying Dutch took the matches at No. 1 and No. 6, as well as a three-set victory over
Quentin Essayie at No. 2.
With the loss, the Vikings drop to 2-3 on the season. The team will be back in action on Saturday, March 18 at Dubuque. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
