KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team was defeated in a non-conference road match on Sunday, falling to the Kalamazoo Hornets by a final score of 8-1.
The Hornets took all three doubles matches for the early 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Quentin Essayie and
Arthur Hermange battled at the top doubles position, but eventually fell by an 8-5 score.
In singles, the Hornets grabbed two quick wins to clinch the match win. The Vikings' lone win came at No. 6 from
Nicolas Navarro, who made quick work of his opponent with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Hermange battled back from a first-set loss to take his opponent at No. 1 to a tiebreaking third set, while
Timothee Philip also won a set at No. 3 singles before falling in three.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 0-2 on the season. The team will be back in action on Saturday, March 4 when they face Coe and Cornell in a pair of road matches in Iowa.
