KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's tennis teams will hit the road again for a non-conference matchup with the Kalamazoo Hornets on Sunday, February 26.
The Augie women currently sit 5-4 on the year and are coming off of a big win over the Luther Norse last Saturday, winning by a score of 5-4. After falling behind 2-1 after doubles play, the Vikings took four of the six singles matches, with
Natasha Gauerke winning the match-clinching contest at No. 5. Gauerke battled back from a first-set loss, winning the second by a score of 6-3 before winning 10-7 in the super tiebreaker to earn the fifth and match-clinching point for Augustana. Caitlin Hanulikova also capped off her undefeated day with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position.
The Kalamazoo women currently sit at 0-3 on the season, dropping their most recent contest to Oberlin by a score of 5-4. The Hornets ended their 2021-22 campaign with a 10-11 overall record. Saturday will be just the second meeting all-time between the programs, with Augie winning their only meeting back in 2016 by a score of 5-4. Start time is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. CST.
For the Augustana men, the team currently sits at 0-1 on the season after falling to Luther last Saturday by a score of 9-0. Luther snagged all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 advantage into singles.
Arthur Mendes and
Gustavo Fontenelle battled tough at No. 3 doubles, but ultimately fell by a score of 8-5. The Norse went a perfect 6-0 in singles to claim the match.
Kalamazoo sits at 1-3 on the men's side this season, recently dropping a 9-0 contest to UW-Whitewater in their last outing. The Hornets defeated Oberlin prior to that by a final of 6-3 for their first win. Saturday will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two programs, with Kalamazoo winning all three matches. The two teams faced off last season, resulting in a 7-2 win at home for the Hornets. Start time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CST.
