Vikings secure Senior Night victory over North Park

ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana women's basketball team triumphed in Saturday's senior day contest, downing the North Park Vikings by a 72-58 final.

Gabriela Loiz got the Vikings rolling offensively, converting an opening possession and-one opportunity into the game's first three points. North Park responded, taking a slim 9-8 advantage before Augustana answered with a 12-5 run to close the quarter. North Park clawed back, retaking the lead at 23-22 following an Augie penalty, which helped fuel a 6-2 burst for the visiting Vikings. Augustana took a nine-point lead into the locker room after three consecutive triples fell, two from Emma Berg and one from Carly Stone.

North Park saw their most efficient shooting frame out of the locker room, cutting the deficit to four and hitting at a 41 percent clip. Augie's defense was smothering in the fourth quarter, allowing North Park to shoot just 2-12 from the field, the opposing team's lowest mark of the game. Augustana pulled away by nine with 54 seconds remaining when they inserted senior guard Kylie Jozwick, who would go 2-2 from the charity stripe to conclude her Viking career.

Loiz was again an offensive force for the Vikings, turning in a 28-point performance in her final regular season game. Stone and Berg also eclipsed double figures, each scoring 11. Loiz led Augie on the glass with 12 boards, rounding out her two-way performance. Matayia Tellis saw her first game action in nearly a month due to injury and led the contest with five steals.

Augustana finishes the regular season with a 17-8 overall record, their highest win total since 2016-17. They boast an 11-5 record in conference and will look to improve that mark on Tuesday, February 21, when they host the Carthage Firebirds in the first round of the CCIW Tournament. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
