DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Augustana men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Solomon W. Butler Classic hosted by the Dubuque Spartans on Friday. Both teams placed third out of six programs in attendance.
For the women,
McKenzie Reser continued her dominance in the 200-meter dash, claiming a top placement and running a new career-best time of 26.99. In the 400-meter,
Kira Nelson ran a time of 1:05.20, earning her a second-place finish in the event.
Lina Maatouk placed third in the 800-meter race, running 2:28.27.
As the distance expanded, Augie continued to record impressive placements.
Casey De La Cruz and
Paige Kern placed first and second in the 3000-meter run, clocking respective times of 11:30.49 and 11:32.03. The win for De La Cruz marks her first collegiate victory and goes down as a personal best by 19 seconds. An additional set of top-two placements came in the one-mile race, as
Emma Odle ran a time of 5:27.30, placing first, and
Ellie DeFarno placed second with her 5:48.27 time.
In the weight-throwing competition,
Rhiannon Marshall finished in the runner-up position with her toss of 1.58 meters, missing first place by .05.
For the men,
Seth Sottos ran a 6.98 time in the 60-meter sprint, placing third. In the 400-meter dash, Augie had three players round out the top-six placements.
Connor McBride finished in fourth running 50.29,
Cameron Tomko finished in fifth running 52.21, and Jimmy Verco finished in sixth running 52.44. McBrides' time places him 10th in program history for the event. Tomko and McBride also ran in the 4x400 meter relay alongside
Jason Smith and
Braeden Clements, placing fourth as a team, running a 3:27.07 time.
Elsewhere,
Carson Eipers placed second in the weight throw competition, tossing 18.20 meters. In the pole vault,
Derek Butts also placed second, extending 4.30 meters.
The Vikings will be back in action February 24-25 at the CCIW Indoor Championships in Bloomington, Ill. Start time is still to be determined.
