ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana men's wrestling team returns home for their final dual of the season against the Cornell Rams on Tuesday, February 14.
The Vikings possess a 10-7 record in duals this season, with their most recent competition taking place in the bracket-style Last Chance Invitational hosted by Central College in Pella, Iowa. No team scores were recorded, but the Vikings had three players in the top four as well as a consolation bracket champion in Ray Herd (165). Augie's most recent dual action was a 36-13 loss on the road to the UW-Platteville Pioneers. Trevor Boryla won the 133-pound division by a 13-4 major decision, Jack Patting claimed the 165-pound division by fall, and Daniel Skold claimed the heavyweight class by a 3-2 decision.
Cornell enters Tuesday's dual with an 8-3 record this season. The Rams have been impressive away from home, winning eight of their nine road or neutral site matchups. Cornell's most recent dual was a 33-6 loss to No. 14 ranked Coe on Senior Night. With an 11-7 decision in the 157 class, 15th-ranked grappler Gabriel Smith delivered Cornell its first points of the dual. Following Smith's victory, teammate Casey Allen earned his 84th career victory in the closing seconds of the 165 match to round out the Rams' scoring.
With a 20-18 record in the all-time series, Augustana leads Cornell by two wins. The most recent meeting between the two programs occurred on February 16, 2022, when the Vikings narrowly defeated Cornell on the road 22-21. The match was tied at 21 apiece after the last action on the mat, but Augie claimed the tiebreaker as they lead the dual in total falls 2-1.
