Women’s wrestling completes Kalahari Duals

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The Augustana Vikings women's wrestling team completed five duals at the Kalahari Duals on Saturday, finishing with a record of 1-4 against Hiram, No. 13 Tiffin, No. 7 Lock Haven, Delaware Valley and No. 23 Simpson.

The Vikings started off the day with a dual meet against the Hiram Terriers, where they fell by a score of 25-21. Augie had four individual wins and an extra point against the Terriers. Hiram won the first three matches, two by forfeit , but Anna Davison grabbed a point in the 116 weight division. Augie won the next two with Hannah Suboni-Kaufman in the 123 division and Monica Griffin in 130, who each won by forfeit. The Terriers won the next three divisions but the Vikings closed out the dual with wins from Sawyer Graham in the 170 category and Angie Guy in 191 by forfeit. 

Next for Augie was a 29-15 victory against the No. 13 Tiffin Dragons, where the Vikings earned six individual wins in the dual. The Dragons secured the 101 and 116 weight divisions, but Augie followed with four straight wins, starting with Suboni-Kaufman who secured a forfeit in the 123 category. Monica Griffin conducted a 10-0 technical fall in the 130 class and Kara Rohlf earned a fall in the 136 class. Lanie Cecala obtained a forfeit from Tiffin in the 143 weight class. The Dragons grabbed the 155 division, but Augie closed out the contest with Sawyer Graham in 170 and Angie Guy in 191, who were victorious via falls over their opponents. 

The third competition for Augie was the No. 7 Lock Haven Bald Eagles, where the Vikings were defeated 46-4. Augustana's only win came from Aine Moffit in the 155 weight division, which was claimed via fall.

Round four for Augie was against the Delaware Valley Aggies, where Augustana fell short by a score of 29-14. The Vikings had three individual wins in this round, beginning with Sandie Pfeil in the 130 division due to fall. Kara Rohlf secured the 136 slot with a forfeit from Delaware Valley and Sawyer Graham won by a 10-0 technical fall in the 170 category. 

The final dual for the Vikings was against the No. 23 Simpson Storm, where Augie lost 34-16. Three vikings secured victories in their weight class, starting with Suboni-Kaufman, who pinned her opponent in the 123 weight division. Sandie Pfeil who won by a fall in the 130 weight class and Angie Guy closed out the Kalahari Duals with a forfeit from the Storm.

The Vikings' record now sits at 2-5 on the season. The team will be back in action on Sunday, January 7 for the Fred Johnson Duals hosted by Augustana.
