KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team heads to Wisconsin on Saturday, December 2 for the second conference contest of the season against the Carthage Firebirds.
The Vikings sit with an overall record of 3-4 and a conference record of 0-1, recently coming from an 85-48 loss against No. 16 Millikin on Wednesday. Millikin grabbed the lead early and owned a 14-point advantage after the first 10 minutes of action. The Vikings held a positive margin in the second quarter until a minute before halftime when Millikin connected on back-to-back shots to move the differential to 21-19 and take a 46-30 lead into halftime. Millkin ran away with the lead out of the half, expanding the difference by 24 in the third. The Vikings conquered the final frame of the battle with a 12-9 margin. Augie made five of their shot attempts for a 41.7 shooting percentage, while Millikin only made four of 15 looks.
Macy Beinborn led the Vikings in scoring and collected a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The next top scorer was Kadence Tatum, who snatched nine points, four assists, four steals, and one rebound.
The Firebirds sit at 5-2 on the season and enter this weekend's battle 1-0 in conference play after defeating Wheaton 77-37 on Wednesday Carthage secured the double-digit win over Wheaton after controlling the tempo to finish the first half up 39-18. They maintained their momentum to close out the game with four individuals scoring double-digit points.
Carthage holds a 43-33 all-time series record over Augie. Augustana won two of the three meetings last year against the Firebirds. Their last matchup was in February, where Augie earned a 68-50 victory over Carthage to advance to the CCIW Tournament Semifinals.
