Women’s basketball set for first conference battle against No. 16 Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team will face the No. 16 Millikin Big Blue on Wednesday, November 29 in Decatur, Ill. 

The Vikings head into their first conference game of the season with an overall record of 3-3, returning from a pair of non-conference contests in Missouri against Webster and Fontbonne, where they went 1-1 on the weekend.

In the most recent matchup against Fontbonne, Augie started the game off strong offensively, putting up 23 points in the first quarter, nine coming from Macy Beinborn. The Vikings continued with their strong effort, creating a 22-5 margin by making nine shots on 50 percent shooting, while Fontbonne made just one of their 10 attempts Returning from the halftime break, both teams had a close battle in the quarter as Augustana had eight made shots, while Fontbonne posted five to create an 18-16 margin. Augie cruised to a 13-point margin in the fourth to finish out the game with a 35-point victory. 

Augustana had 12 individuals contribute to Sunday's score, led by Beinborn with 21 points. Cali Papez was the next highest scorer for the Vikings, finishing 7-7 in field goals to tally 14 points with six rebounds. Tatum also added 10 assists.

The Big Blue enter the conference battle 6-0, returning from an 84-52 victory over Illinois College on Sunday, November 26. Millikin forced Illinois College to commit 26 turnovers and out-rebounded the Lady Blues 50-34. Millikin shot 43 percent from the field while holding Illinois College to 34 percent shooting. Millikin hit 3-19 from three-point range and made 17-24 from the free throw line. The Big Blue are ranked No. 16 in the latest D3hoops.com poll and sit at No. 13 in the WBCA rankings. 

Millikin leads Augie 55-32 in the all-time series. Wednesday will be a rematch of last season's CCIW Tournament championship game, which the Big Blue won in Decatur by a score of 57-52.
