Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team was defeated in the opening round of the MPSF Tournament on Friday, falling to the USC Trojans by a score of 20-4.
After the Trojans grabbed the first two goals of the game, the Vikings cut the deficit in half with a score from
Colin McDowell at the 5:24 mark. USC answered with two more goals before the end of the opening frame, taking a 4-1 lead into the second. The Trojans added onto their first-half cushion with a 3-0 differential in their favor to push the score to 7-1 at halftime.
USC had its best offensive quarter of the game in the third, finding the back of the net eight times while holding Augie to just one tally in the period.
Tyler Leslie notched the lone goal for the Vikings in the frame.
Alden Brinkmeier and
Rhys Lomax also contributed scores for Augustana in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its 20-4 final score.
The No. 2 seeded Vikings will now face the No. 7 seeded Washington & Jefferson Presidents tomorrow morning for the opportunity to move on to the MPSF East title game. Start time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. CST.
