BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team will begin its quest to repeat as MPSF East champions on Friday, November 17 when they take on the USC Trojans in the opening round of the conference tournament.
Augie currently sits 13-5 overall and has won its last 10 contests. The Vikings recently wrapped up a home conference invitational, going 4-0 with wins over Washington & Jefferson, Austin, Connecticut, and Penn State Behrend. Augustana finished the MPSF regular season with a perfect undefeated record for the second year in a row to wrap up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. The Vikings are currently ranked No. 6 in the country in the latest ACWPC coaches' poll.
Earlier this week, seven members of the team were named to the MPSF-East All-Conference team, with
Declan Hutton and
Ian Palmroos being named the Player and Newcomer of the Year.Â
The Vikings will draw the No. 7 seed in the tournament and No. 3 ranked in Division I, the USC Trojans. USC currently sits with a record of 12-6 overall and 1-5 in MPSF action. In their last outing, the Trojans fell in overtime to rival and No. ranked UCLA by a score of 10-8. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak that showcased wins over two top eight programs. The MPSF currently features the top four ranked teams in Division I.
