MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team travels south to face off against the Monmouth Scots on Tuesday, November 14
The Vikings enter the contest with a 1-1 record after Hyatt Place Tournament matchups, snatching a 75-64 win from the Simpson Storm and falling 70-52 to the Aurora Spartans. The Vikings had a rough start to the weekend against the Spartans as they outshot the Vikings 16-6 from behind the three-point line. Augie regained their rhythm against Simpson as both teams went back-and-forth with the lead. Consecutive 20-plus quarters in the second half from the Vikings helped them pull away for good and seal the double-digit win.
Emma Berg led the Vikings with 16 points, three rebounds, and one steal during her 31 minutes of play against the Storm.
Macy Beinborn was close behind with 15 points, while also contributing two rebounds, three steals, and one block in her 35-minute duration.
Paige Melton added 10 points off the bench in her first action with the Vikings.
The Scots enter Tuesday's contest with a 0-1 season record. In their first game of the season against Coe, Monmouth trailed by just eight after one half of play, but a big fourth quarter allowed the Kohawks to pull away and seal the 76-54 victory. Kiersten Cox led the scoring effort for the Scots with 18 points.
Augie currently has an eight-game winning streak in the all-time series against Monmouth and boasts a 30-5 overall record. The last matchup was in December of 2022, when the Vikings secured a 71-68 victory. Beinborn led all scorers in the win with 21 points.
