WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team rounded out their stay in California on Sunday, winning a road contest over the Whittier Poets by a score of 15-6.
Ian Palmroos notched the game's first goal with a score 24 seconds into the game to give Augie a 1-0 lead. Palmroos and
James Davis each accounted for one more score in the opening frame to lead the Vikings to a 3-1 advantage after eight minutes of action. The Vikings mirrored their first-quarter production in the second with three additional goals before half, extending their margin to three at the break. Leslie joined Palmroos in the scoring column in the second to help the Vikings double up the Poets after 16 minutes of play.
Augustana continued to add onto the differential, posting another 3-2 advantage in the third. All three of the Vikings scores in the period came from three different players as
Colin McDowell,
Oskar Bannister, and
Joseph Addison all found the back of the net. Augie pulled away with a big fourth quarter, outscoring Whittier 6-1 to complete the 15-6 win. Addison was the first player to notch a goal in the final frame, followed by two each from
Mark Addison and Bannister.
Palmroos led all players with four goals on the afternoon, followed by three from both M. Addison and Bannister.
Declan Hutton earned the win in net after saving 16 shots.
The Vikings improve to 4-5 overall with the win. The team will be back in action on Friday, October 6 when they travel east to face Mercyhurst for the second time this season.
