ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana women's basketball team returns home to face the Carroll Pioneers for a CCIW contest on Sunday, January 8.
The Vikings currently sit at 9-5 on the season and are coming off a dominant road win over Elmhurst by a 91-40 final on January 5. The contest favored the Vikings from start to finish, as Augie saw their best scoring output since the 2017-18 season. Augie had four scorers with double-digit point totals, led by Emma Berg's 15-point outing. Coach Beinborn's squad generated over two dozen turnovers, with 19 of those disruptions being steals, a season-high.
The Pioneers enter Sunday's contest sporting an 8-5 record, 3-1 in the CCIW. They recently bested Carthage on the road to extend their current win streak to three. Carroll is averaging 67.3 points per game, over 12 points more than their opponents this season. Olivia Rangel paces the Pioneers from her guard position, averaging just over 11 points per game, recently contributing a 20-point effort in their win over the Firebirds.
Augustana leads the all-time series over Carroll, boasting an 18-8 record. The most recent matchup between the two teams came on January 29, 2021, when the Vikings bested the Pioneers at home by a 67-56 score. Berg's career-high 20-point outing pushed the Vikings past the Pioneers in last season's second meeting.
Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside the Roy J. Carver Center. Stream link for Sunday's CCIW contest can be found here.
