ELMHURST, Ill. – The Augustana women's basketball team earned their third conference victory of the season Wednesday night, routing the Elmhurst Bluejays on the road by a 91-40 score.
Augie's dominance began in the opening frame, outscoring Elmhurst 24-4 through 10 minutes of play, marking their largest plus-point differential in a single period this season. Efficiency was pivotal on both sides of the ball as Augustana shot at a 52 percent clip while holding the opposition to just 1-8 on their attempts from the field.
Emma Berg capped off the dominant frame with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to put the Vikings up 20 heading into the second. The rout resumed with another double-digit margin in their favor, entering the locker room up 34 at the halfway point.
The Vikings continued to stifle the Bluejays out of the half, holding them to just 12 points on 35 percent shooting. Five Vikings contributed scores in the frame, including
Macy Beinborn, who made both of her three-point attempts. In the fourth period, Augie looked to their bench to wrap up the one-sided contest.
Kylee DeVore saw her first attempts of the season, making the most of her opportunity by shooting a perfect 3-3 from the field. Augie closed the contest with another plus-margin to secure the lopsided victory.
A season-high 12 Vikings contributed points Wednesday night, led by Berg's 15-point outing. Beinborn,
Corey Whitlock, and
Gabriela Loiz all added double-digit scoring efforts to help lead to the Vikings' highest-scoring outing since the 2017-18 season. On the glass,
Cali Papez and
Presley Case hauled in six boards apiece.
With the win, Augustana moves to 9-5 on the season and 3-2 in CCIW play. The Vikings return home for a bout with the Carroll Pioneers on January 8. Tip-off for Sunday's conference matchup is set for 2:00 p.m. from inside the Carver Center.
