DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming & diving teams will hit the road on Friday, January 27 for a dual meet at St. Ambrose before heading to Wheaton on Saturday, January 28 to face the Wheaton Thunder.
Both the Vikings men's and women's teams enter the weekend with a 3-0 record in dual competitions. The teams are coming off a successful trip to the Grinnell Invitational last weekend, with the men finishing in second and women in third. The men saw multiple meet and school records broken during their time, including two milestone efforts from
Mark Addison in the 200-breast and 500-free, landing him the CCIW Men's Swimmer of the Week honor. In their last dual outing, Augustana defeated Monmouth at home by a score of 187-23.
The women are also boasting a reigning CCIW Swimmer of the Week in
Olivia White, who highlighted the team's success at Grinnell with a win in the 500-freestyle. She was also a part of a second-place 200-yard freestyle relay team and finished third in the 200-yard freestyle race. The Augie women defeated Monmouth by a score of 183-34 and have won 10 dual meets in a row dating back to February 2020.
The St. Ambrose men currently sit 4-2 overall, but were defeated in their most recent outing by Lewis by a final of 200.5-77.5. Friday will be the 11th all-time meeting between Augustana and St. Ambrose, with the Bees holding a slight edge in the series 5-4-1. St. Ambrose has won the last three meetings between the two, including last year's encounter by a final of 173-35.
For the St. Ambrose women, the team enters Friday with a 3-3 record, also falling to Lewis in their most recent outing. Augustana has won all four matchups against St. Ambrose, including a 118-97 win in Davenport a season ago.
Start time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
On Saturday, the Vikings will take on the Wheaton Thunder in their final dual meet of the season. The Thunder men are 3-4-1 on the season, defeating Aquinas by a final of 188-88 last Saturday. Augustana has never beaten Wheaton, dropping all nine meets all-time. The Thunder won last season's encounter by a score of 112-91.
On the women's side, the Thunder currently sit 3-5 on the year, also defeating Aquinas in their most recent meet. Saturday will be the ninth meeting between the two programs, each winning four times in their history. The Vikings defeated the Thunder at home last season by a score of 121-94 and have won two straight over Wheaton.
