ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana women's basketball team will return home for a CCIW matchup against the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday, January 25.
The Vikings sit at 11-7 overall following an 81-63 loss to Millikin on Saturday. Augie jumped to a seven-point lead in the opening frame before the Big Blue responded with a 14-4 run of their own. The Vikings battled in the second period to enter the half trailing by eight. Late in the third quarter, Macy Beinborn sent in a record-breaking deep shot that moved her into first place for career three-point makes. With 146 three-pointers, Beinborn surpassed Kristen Pence, who played from 2001-2005. Augie trailed by 14 points entering the final frame and could not close the gap as Millikin remained undefeated in the CCIW with the win.
Elmhurst enters Wednesday's game possessing a 2-15 record and has yet to win a conference contest. Their most recent outing resulted in a 69-58 defeat to Carthage on Saturday. The Bluejays trailed the Firebirds by 25 points early in the fourth quarter before closing the game on a 16-2 rally. Elmhurst was led by veteran center Taylor Harazin, who finished with 25 points and nine rebounds.
In the all-time series, Augie leads Elmhurst 49-28. The most recent matchup between the conference foes came on January 4, resulting in a dominant 91-40 road victory for the Vikings. Augustana controlled the contest from beginning to end, having four scorers reach double figures, led by
Emma Berg's 15-point outing. Other scorers eclipsing double-figures were Beinborn (13),
Gabriela Loiz (12) and
Corey Whitlock (11). The Vikings have won 11 of their last 12 encounters against the Bluejays.
