Augie earns multiple top placements at Bumble Rumble meet

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Augustana men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Bumble Rumble on the campus of St. Ambrose University on Saturday. Although there were no team scores recorded, the Vikings achieved several top finishes at the individual level.

For the men, Seth Sottos ran a 7.03 time in the 60-meter sprint, winning the event and improving by .01 seconds from his teammate Landon Zimny's time at the same venue on December 3, 2022. Sottos' time places him fifth in the short-distance event in program history. Augie had two runners finish in the top four in the 200-meter sprint, with Connor McBride finishing second at 22.73 and Sottos finishing third at 22.93.

Augie achieved a top placing in the 800-meter sprint with Joe Gibbons and his 2:00.43 time. Closely trailing Gibbons was his teammate Eirik Andersen who placed third, running a 2:07.75 time. Joe Langridge also had two outstanding finishes for the Vikings in the distance races. He claimed a top finish in the 3000-meter run with a 9:11.78 time and narrowly missed another top placement, finishing second in the mile run with a 4:21.60 time.

Carson Eipers highlighted the Vikings' efforts in throwing competition, posting a 17.79 weight throw, good for second place at the event.

On the women's side, Rhiannon Marshall registered a top finish in the high jump, turning in a 5'1" leap to lead the event. Marshall's jump was two inches higher than any other participant on Saturday. In the hurdles, the Vikings claimed a top-three sweep, led by Lauren Oelke's time of 10.07. Madison Morrow finished second at 10.16 followed by Sara Marrs in third with a time of 10.92.

McKenzie Reser moved up the all-time list for the Vikings on the women's side, running a 7.95 time in the 60-meter dash, placing her third in program history for the event. Reser continued to dominate Saturday's competition, earning an additional top placement in the 200-meter sprint with a 26.55 time.

Augustana shined in the mile competition, claiming placements one through five, led by Anna Boardman's 5:28.38 effort. Kara Lotz, Rylee Noack, Madison Weis, and Casey De La Cruz rounded out the top five runners, clocking times of 5:42.50, 5:43.48, 5:56.39, and 5:56.57, respectively. Elsewhere, Lina Maatouk earned a second-place finish in the 800-meter sprint with a 2:28.37 time. 

The Vikings will be back in action later this month at the Squig Converse Invitational. The men will compete on Friday, January 27 and the women will compete on Saturday, January 28.
