MEQUON, Wis. – The Augustana men's wrestling team travels to Wisconsin on Saturday, January 21 for the CCIW Duals, where they will compete against Wheaton, Concordia-Wisconsin, and Aurora.
The Vikings sport a 9-4 record in duals this season, with their most recent match resulting in a 30-21 win over Eureka to cap off a 3-0 record at the Fred Johnson Duals on January 7. In the team's last competition, Augustana earned a ninth-place finish at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell. Augie had several wrestlers earn multiple victories on the mat, with
Trevor Boryla notching a team-best third-place finish.
In the opening dual on Saturday, Augie will face the Wheaton Thunder, who possess a 5-7 record this season. Wheaton dropped their most recent dual by a 25-16 score to Concordia University of Wisconsin on January 7. They then traveled to the campus of Elmhurst for the Al Hanke Invitational, which resulted in a 10th-place finish out of 18 teams. Ethan Harsted earned a top finish for the Thunder in the 141 class. The Vikings are currently on a six-dual win streak against Wheaton, with the last matchup between the two programs resulting in a narrow 27-24 victory in favor of Augustana at last season's CCIW Duals.
The Vikings will face the Concordia Falcons
as the away team for their second dual
of the afternoon. The Falcons narrowly edged the aforementioned Wheaton at the Al Hanke Invitation in early January, placing ninth. The most recent dual between Augustana and Concordia resulted in a 30-19 Augie victory, also at last year's CCIW Duals.
To conclude their visit to Mequon, the Vikings will battle with the Aurora Spartans. The Spartans are 2-5 in dual action this season but are coming off a dominant 37-18 victory over the MSOE Raiders on Wednesday. Augustana has yet to face Aurora in dual competition, with the Spartans amidst their second season in program history.
