Swimming & diving teams defeat Monmouth on Senior Day

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up wins over the Monmouth Fighting Scots on Saturday, with the men winning by a final of 187-23 and the women by a score of 183-34. The Vikings recognized seniors Joseph Addison, Jack Blumenfeld, Terrin Boehmer, Megan Frost, Mykenzie James, Stephanie Melendez, Alison Ogden, Dominique Valentine, and Isaiah Valentine during the meet.

"It was a great day for our team to honor this senior class that has meant so much to our program," said head coach Dan Lloyd. "It has been an honor to coach this special group of student athletes and today truly showed what Augustana Swimming & Diving is all about - family."

On the men's side, the Vikings not only won every event, but secured a 1-3 finish in every event but one. In relays, the 200-medley A relay team made up of Nick Phillips (back), Kacper Cebula (breast), Hunter Craft (fly), and Oskar Bannister (free) clocked in at 1:36.77 to securing the race win. The 200-free A team of Addison, Boehmer, Blumenfeld, and Valentine won with a time of 1:29.14. 

Individual event winners vs. Monmouth:

  • Christian Mammoser won the 1000 with a time of 11:06.03.

  • Tyler Leslie won the 200 free, clocking in at 1:44.07.

  • Bannister finished first in both the 50 (21.43) and 100 free (47.02).

  • Cebula won the 200 IM clocking in at 2:01.85.

  • Lorenzo Moreno won 1-meter diving event with a score of 272.60.

  • Craft won the 100 fly touching the wall with a time of 52.94.

  • Cesar Castillo won the 100 back at 55.20.

  • Tommy Anderson took first in the 500, clocking in at 5:14.18.

  • Mark Addison finished first in the 100 breast (59.11)

On the women's side, the Vikings finished first in every event, secured a top-two finish in every event as well. Augie also grabbed top-three finishes in seven events. 

In relays, the 200-medley A relay team comprised of Hailey Glasnovich (back), Zoe Heiar (breast), Genevieve Ryan (fly), and Valentine (free) took first with a time of 1:55.18. Additionally, the 200 free A relay team of Olivia White, Bella Casanovas, Bella Valenti, and Brooke Walker finished first touching the wall at 1:47.55. 

Individual event winners vs. Monmouth:

  • Walker took first in both the 1,000 free (11:07.97) and 200 IM (2:20.28).

  • Valentine won in both the 200 free (2:06.22) and 100 free (57.67).

  • White took first in both the 50 free (25.92) and 500 free (5:24.87).

  • Katie Zaborenko won 3-meter diving with a score of 347.55.

  • Heiar dominated both the 100 fly (1:00.64) and 100 breast (1:11.47).

  • Glasnovich won the 100-back with a time of 1:01.52.

Augustana will be back in action next week at the Grinnell Invitational.
