BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Augustana women's basketball team hits the road on Saturday, January 14, for a conference matchup with the Illinois Wesleyan Titans.
The Vikings sit at 10-5 on the season and are currently on a three-game win streak beginning with their win over Monmouth on December 30. In their most recent contest, Augie survived a late surge from the Carroll Pioneers to win by a 67-64 final. The contest was decided behind the three-point line, with the Vikings converting nine shots from deep while not allowing one from the Pioneers. Emma Berg led the offensive attack, turning in a 16-point effort. Elsewhere, Matayia Tellis was key in stifling multiple Pioneer possessions, generating a career-high seven steals in the game.
Illinois Wesleyan enters Saturday's contest with an even 8-8 record on the season and 3-4 in conference. The Titans are working through a rough patch in their season, falling in five of their last six matchups. Their most recent outing resulted in a 66-57 loss to Millikin on Wednesday. The Titans had three scorers in double figures but could not claw back late against the Big Blue. The Titans are averaging 71.6 points per game, exactly seven more points than their opponents this season.
The Titans lead Augie by a 50-34 record in the all-time series. In the most recent matchup between the two programs, Illinois Wesleyan defeated Augustana in last year's season finale, clinching the CCIW title in a narrow 65-62 win. The Vikings hung around, eventually grabbing a lead with 5:30 remaining, but a late push gave the visitors the lead back and they were able to hang on due to late free-throw shooting. A turnover in the final seconds gave Augie a last-second look from three but just missed to give the Titans their fourth-straight win in the series.
Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from the Shirk Center. The stream link for Saturday's matchup can be found here.
