Vikings wrap up 'Roo Invitational with 4-0 record

Augie defeated Washington & Jefferson and Connecticut on Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHERMAN, Texas -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team made it a perfect 4-0 stay at the 'Roo Invitational on Sunday, picking up two more wins on the weekend as they defeated the Washington and Jefferson Presidents and Connecticut College Camels.

Game One (W 13-4 vs. Washington and Jefferson)

The Vikings jumped to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening quarter over the Presidents, seeing a goal each from Mark Addison and Zion Thomas, as well as two from Oskar Bannister. The Presidents managed to tack on a goal late in the first period to make it a 4-1 score in favor of the Vikings.

The first two scores of the second quarter belonged to Augustana, seeing two goals from two different players as Stevan Rasic and Lucas Osborn added themselves to the goal-scoring category. The Vikings ended up taking a 7-2 lead into halftime, with Bannister grabbing his third of the game right before the break.

Rasic, Osborn, and Addison accounted for the first three goals of the third to push the team's lead to eight. Washington and Jefferson grabbed the last goal of the frame to bring the margin to seven at 10-3. The Vikings added three more in the final quarter to close out their final regular-season conference game with a win.

Declan Hutton had 10 saves to help hold the Presidents to just four goals.

Augie ends the 2022 regular season with a perfect 5-0 record in MPSF action.

Game Two (W 23-10 vs. Connecticut)

Augie closed out the weekend with a non-league matchup against the Camels, posting a season-high in goals with 23. The two teams traded scores to a 3-3 tie to begin the game, but three straight from the Vikings to close out the first quarter gave them a 6-3 lead after eight minutes of action. Addison and Bannister each had two goals through one quarter of play.

Eight goals in the second cushioned the Augustana lead, outscoring Connecticut 8-3 to in the frame on their way to a 14-6 halftime advantage. All eight goals in the frame for the Vikings came from different players, including the second for both Zion Thomas and Will Riebel.

Augie grew their lead to as many as 10 in the third and followed it up with a 5-2 fourth quarter to cruise to the 13-point win, their second-largest of the season.

Addison finished with five goals on seven shots. Bannister added four.

With the wins, Augie sits at 7-2 overall. The team will be back in action September 24-25 at the Air Force Invite. Augustana will take on Long Island to start the weekend on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CST.
