Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team wrapped up their stay at the W&J Invite on Sunday, falling to the No. 4 ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays by a score of 17-12 before knocking off Penn State Behrend by a final of 18-9.
Game One (L 17-12 vs. Johns Hopkins)
Augie grabbed the the first two scores of the game early on in the first as
Oskar Bannister and
Colin McDowell found the back of the net. The Blue Jays tallied one in response, but the Vikings went back up two on a goal from
Joseph Addison. Johns Hopkins evened the score at 3-3 with back-to-back goals to close out the opening eight minutes.
McDowell notched the first goal of the second quarter to reclaim the lead for the Vikings, but the Blue Jays responded with four straight to shift momentum in their favor. Johns Hopskins ended the quarter with six goals, doubling up the Vikings' three as they took a 9-6 lead into halftime.
The Blue Jays added onto their lead following the third quarter, outscoring the Vikings 5-3. Augie grabbed two of the first three scores of the period after Addison and
Jake Fisher found the back of the net, but Johns Hopkins tallied four of the next five to extend their advantage The two teams played to an even fourth quarter, each scoring three times, resulting in the Blue Jays' 17-12 victory.
McDowell finished the contest with four goals to lead the Vikings, while Addison had three.
Henry Sothern stopped 12 shots in net.

Game Two (W 18-9 vs. Penn State Behrend)
In the team's second game of the day and final of the weekend, the Vikings matched up against a familiar foe in the Penn State Behrend Lions, a team they defeated three times a season ago.
Augie jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter of action, seeing a goal from
Zander O'Dwyer, McDowell, and two from
Mark Addison. The Vikings grabbed the first two of the second quarter as well to stretch their scoring run to six before the Lions finally got on the board. The two teams traded a few scores to round out the first half with an 8-4 lead in favor of Augustana.
The Vikings doubled up Penn State Behrend in the third quarter, holding the Lions to two scores while putting four up on the board. Augie also posted a plus-two margin in the fourth at 5-3 to cruise to the nine-point victory.
McDowell and M. Addison each had four goals to help lead the Vikings to victory.
With the results, Augustana now sits at 3-2 on the season and is 2-0 against MPSF opponents. The team will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday down in Sherman, Texas against Penn State Behrend.
