ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Director of Augustana Track & Field
Jake Shaver has named
Taylor Hurry as a full-time assistant coach with both the men's women's programs. Hurry, who has spent around a year-and-a-half with the programs, will continue to oversee the throws in a full-time role.
"I'm excited to have Coach Hurry on staff full-time," Shaver said. "He has been an outstanding addition to our coaching team and I appreciate all of the time, energy, and enthusiasm he has brought in that time. Coach Hurry has outstanding rapport with our throws squad, has already coached an All-American and numerous conference scorers on both sides, and I'm eager to see what he can do in a full-time capacity."
Hurry earned a BA in Neuroscience specializing in learning/developmental disabilities from Carthage College and earned his Master's degree Special Education. In 2011, Hurry finished 17th in the shot put (39-0 ¼) at the CCIW Outdoor Track and Field Championship and 20th in the shot put (38-10 ½) at the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championship. For the past six years, he has been working as a special educator. When he is not coaching or training, Hurry still actively competes in the Highland Games and does other strength work.
"I'm very excited to come on full time," said Hurry. "I am eager to give the most I can to the student-athletes here at Augustana."
This past season, Hurry led a throws group that saw a throws group that saw Carson Eipers qualify for the indoor national championships. Eipers placed third in the weight throw, becoming the first Augustana All-American in the event ever.
