Gille, Krebasch highlight success at CCIW Championships

Gille (10,000) and Krebasch (high jump) both earned first-place finishes

WHEATON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the CCIW Outdoor Championships over the weekend at McCully Stadium hosted by Wheaton College.

Michael Gille earned conference champion status on Friday after winning the 10,000m race with a time of 31:14.39. He is the first Augustana student-athlete to win the 10,000 at the conference meet since Ambo Bati in 1998. Also on Friday, Karsten Zielinski placed fourth in the 3000m steeplechase with a final time of 9:38.11.

On Saturday, Katrina Krebasch became the first women's student-athlete at Augustana to win the high jump since Casey Jacobs did so in 2003. The senior cleared 1.58m to become conference champion in the event. She also earned all-conference in the pole vault after her mark of 3.80m earned her second overall.

Between both Vikings teams, Augie boasted multiple All-CCIW efforts, which included top-three finishing from Heather Michalski (javelin), Alex Gazarek (5000m), Connor McBride (200m), Braden Clements (100m), Adrian Ibarra (triple jump), Travis Bush (javelin), and Judd Anderson (110m hurdles). The men's 4x100 relay team of Anderson, McBride, Seth Sottos, and Ian Rothery grabbed second with a time of 42:15.

All-Conference members include those who finish in the top eight in their respective individual events, or top three in relay races. As a team, the Vikings boasted over 40 all-conference performances. To view the meet's results in its entirety, click here. 

Sam Allen and Portia Carrera were named this year's recipients of the RESPECT Award.

As a team, the Viking men placed fourth overall, while the women came in seventh. Augie will be back in action on May 13-14 at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet in Joliet, Ill.
