DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings outdoor track & field teams were split up over the weekend at two separate meets, beginning with the Drake Relays on Thursday, followed by the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College. The Drake Relays ran for three days, Thursday through Sunday, while the meet at Simpson was a one-day outing on Friday.
At Drake, the women's distance medley relay team of
Irais Tenorio,
McKenzie Reser,
Carmen Bruchnak, and
Kara Lotz finished 11th in the college division, clocking a time of 13:01.57 to put them eighth all-time in the Augustana record books in the event. The Vikings finished fourth among NCAA DIII schools in the race.
On the men's side, the Vikings' 4x200 team of
Sylvester Brady,
Seth Sottos,
Ian Rothery, and
Connor McBride placed 11th with a time of 1:28.07 to put them seventh all-time in the event. Sottos' split was the second fastest in the event out of all of the divisions present. The team finished third of the NCAA DIII schools in the race and placed ahead of multiple DI and DII opponents as a total of 26 teams were represented. Also competing at the Drake Relays, the men's 1600 sprint medley team placed 10th, while the 4x100 squad secured 16th overall.
At the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson, Reser earned a top ten finish in the 200m dash with a time of 26.21, also placing 12th in the 100m as well. Tenorio placed second among NCAA DIII in the 1500m run and secured a top 25 finish with a time of 4:56.46.
For the men,
Alex Gazarek also placed second out of DIII schools in the 5000m, crossing the finish line 15:08.04. He finished 29th in the event.
Karsten Zielinski came in seventh overall in the 5000m run, clocking a time of 15:40.29.
Reid McNeill grabbed fifth in the pole vault after clearing 4.25m, while
Jon Cathcart earned ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.61m.Â
In the hammer, Cason Eipers moved into eighth all-time in the Augustana record book, earning tenth in the event with a toss of 53.28m.Â
No team scores were kept at either of the meets. The Vikings will now get ready for the 2022 CCIW Outdoor Championships to take place May 6-7 in Wheaton, Ill.
