Women's tennis welcomes in pair of non-conference opponents

The Vikings will play Illinois Tech at 9:00 a.m., followed by Central at noon on Saturday

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team will face a pair of non-conference opponents at home on Saturday, April 9 as they gear up to play the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks and Central College Dutch from the Lower Campus Courts on the campus of Augustana College.

Augie enters Saturday with a 6-12 record overall, with their last match coming all the way back on March 23, a 5-4 loss to Allegheny in South Carolina. The Gators took two of three close doubles matches for the early advantage and claimed matches 4-6 in singles despite the Vikings winning at the top three spots. Lily Schoeck grabbed a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win at the top slot. Michaela Magee defeated her opponent in consecutive sets 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot, while Caitlyn Hanulikova squeaked out a come-from-behind 4-6, 7-5. 1-0 (9) victory at No. 3. 

Illinois Tech currently sports a 12-4 overall record and are winners of their last six contests. The Scarlet Hawks went a perfect 3-0 during their spring break trip in Orlando, Fla., defeating Connecticut College in their most recent outing by a score of 6-3. Illinois Tech has played one other CCIW school this season as they picked up a win over Carthage by a final of 5-4 on the road earlier this month. Augie is 1-0 all-time vs. IlT, winning 7-2 in their last meeting in 2019 at home.

In their second match of the day, the Vikings will take on the Dutch of Central College. The Dutch sit at 11-10 overall this season and are 2-1 against fellow CCIW schools. Central dropped two matches to North Central to begin the season by scores of 9-0, following it up with a 9-0 win over Elmhurst. Augustana is 17-3 versus Central all-time, with their last encounter also coming in 2019, a 9-0 triumph for the Vikings.

Start times are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
