ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track & field teams had a successful home meet over the weekend at the Meet of Champions, seeing a new school record set, 65 lifetime bests, and nine event winners.
Seth Sottos claimed the school record in the 100m dash with a time of 10.59, breaking the long-standing time of 10.60 set by Kofi Osei in 1981. He also was a part of the first-place 4x100m relay team, winning the event with teammates
Judd Anderson,
Ian Rothery, and
Connor McBride at a time of 41.74. The group currently sits in the top 20 nationally in the event.
Alex Gazarek earned first in the 10,000m run on Friday, claiming the victory by over 15 seconds.
Evan Webber also took third in the event as well. In the 5,000m,
Grant Ackard won with a time of 16:08.73, nearly 30 seconds fast than the second-place finisher.
Sylvester Brady posted a huge personal record in the 200 with a mark of 22.52.
In field events,
Carson Eipers won the hammer throw with a toss of 52.21m. As a team, every thrower on both the men's and women's side posted a personal best.
The Vikings men placed third out of ten teams with a score of 169.5 points.
On the women's side,
Katrina Krebasch earned first in two events, clearing 3.35m in the pole vault and 1.57m in the high jump. On the track,
Anna Boardman won the 10,000m run with a time of 40:28.32, while
McKenzie Reser moved up to eighth all-time in Augustana history in the 100m following her winning time of 12.39. She also cracked the top ten in the 200m in the record books, finishing in 25.70.
Carmen Bruchnak notched a lifetime best in the 800m, placing third with a time of 2:22.43.
As a team, the women earned fourth overall out of ten teams with 108 total points.
The Vikings will be back in action on April 28-30 at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
