DECATUR, Ill. – The Augustana golf teams competed at the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin University this weekend. The Viking women finished as the runner-up in the team race while the men posted a solid fifth-place finish of their own.
On the women's side,
Rylie Schurter led the Vikings with rounds of 85 and 83 to finish T-3 with Paige Sanfelippo of DePauw University.
Elena Kuczkowski also ended up in the top 10 with a T-7 finish after a pair of 86's. Other Viking women included
Grace Loverde (11
th, +31),
Jennifer Larsson (T-13, +34), and
Avery Frick (T-17, +35).
DePauw's Adrienne Pemberton won the individual crown with a two-day score of +21, just one stroke better than runner-up Darby Scott of Kalamazoo.
The Augustana men finished in fifth place in the team competition.
Hunter Love and
Adam Soczka led the Vikings with respective finishes of T-21 and T-24, respectively. Love posted a two-day score of +14 while Soczka ended the event at +15. Other Augie men included
Tyler Langel (T-44, +20),
Jonah Snelling (T-46, +21), and
Dan Ford (T-46, +21).
Parkland College was represented by the individual champion and runner-up on the men's side. Kegan Niles won the meet at +1, just a shot better than his teammate Joel Petersson at +2.
The Augustana women will finish their season next weekend when they host the Viking Invitational at Highland Springs Golf Course on Saturday, Apr. 30 and Sunday, May 1.
The Augie men will tee off at the CCIW Championships for their next event in Milwaukee on Friday, Apr. 29 and Saturday, Apr. 30.
