Outdoor track & field boasts multiple PRs at Ashton May Invitational

Krebasch (PV), Webber (5000m) earn event wins

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings outdoor track & field team boasted multiple personal records and near-bests over the weekend at the Ashton May Invitational hosted by UW-Lacrosse, as well as an event winner on both the men's and women's side.

Katrina Krebasch won the pole vault with her best outdoor mark of the season, clearing 3.82m to place her third in the nation in the event. Heather Michalski grabbed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 35.39m to earn points for the Vikings. She also placed 12th in the discus, followed by Nora Ansburg in 14th.

Anna Boardman highlighted the track events, placing fourth in the 5000m with a time of 19:17.16. In the 800m run, Carmen Bruchnak (13th) and Irais Tenorio (17th) both earned top 20 finishes in a competitive field. Tenorio also placed 17th in the 1500m event out of 60 participants. 

As a team, the Viking women finished eighth overall with 20 team points.

On the men's side, Evan Webber was the event winner in the 5000m run, clocking a time of 15:50.62. Michael Gille earned fourth in the 1500m, finishing at 3:54.74, while Seth Sottos (21.62), Connor McBride (22.38), and Jason Smith (22.88) all placed top 25 in the 200m. Sottos cracked top five in his mark to lead the efforts for the Vikings. Alex Gazarek placed in the top 20 in a jam-packed 1500m field of over 70-plus competitors with a time of 4:03.25.

In field events, Jon Cathcart posted a major personal record in the long jump, tallying a distance of 6.72m to earn him fifth overall. In the shot put, Jack Currie earned points for the team with a seventh-place standing, while Carson Eipers did the same with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw.

As a team, the Vikings placed seventh with 39 total points.

Augie will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 at the Loras Mid-Week meet in Dubuque, Iowa.
